At last, you are one of the only reviewers who I actually agree with on UA-cam. I’ve tried a lot of this equipment that you are reviewing, and you are spot on with your descriptions. I too am like you, not an objectivist or subjectivist, I just like what I like and use equipment accordingly. A lot of reviewers I have bought equipment off the back of and none of it sounds remotely as they described it to be. I think a lot of these reviewers actually need their ears tested and put the certificate up from the audiologist. Or completely use different terms for what they are sensing or perhaps they are just making up these imaginary things they hear in their head. Thankfully, I have had my hearing tested, and it is highly sensitive and perhaps one of my best senses. And I agree with you. Great reviews!

Can you completely defeat the display on it? Displays actually do audibly affect the sound quality, causes interference.

How did you hook up the little valve amp? It looked as if it was coming out of the front headphone output and using two preamps, but I take that wasn’t the case and that you used the output from the back? Thanks and good review.

Every SMSL dac with a colour screen has displayed the volume front centre and largest text for at least the last 5 years. It's something that is really annoying in pure Dac mode as who wants to se 00db on their screen. Makes more sense in an all in one.

Thank you so much for this FunFi review. I totally agree "Oh My Gawd!" thank you SMSL for putting the volume front and center. Just wish it was 1-100 rather than -dB. I really appreciated your thorough testing and stating plainly and logically your process and findings. It is unfortunately more and more rare to find a reviewer that does not depend on measurements alone or "chocolatey sharp sound" or some such nonsense. I think the Wiim Ultra features bluetooth out, but I could be wrong on that. It tries to hard to be everything to everyone, and is very nice, but "meh" in most areas other than the streaming app.

There are measurements over on ASR, the RCA and XLR do provide the voltage they specify. However, the HP Output is less than what they stated, in that regard it is closer to C200.

I love this video, I’ve seen numerous “brand new perfect condition” that look like 💩. I’d never buy anything from this company no matter what they made. Embarrassing to say the least.

How does it compare to bl03 as graphs look similar..?

I spoke to a Neumann engineer and they all said that modern speaker designs at least for the high end market, don't really need a burn/break-in. He straight up said that burn in was required only on poorly made products decades ago. I believe that they even published research on their website for all to read a few years back. Claiming that a speaker or headphone is designed to be burned it, makes absolutely zero sense if you think about it. Why design it that way when you don't have to? What is the point? It doesn't make sense to the point where I have to believe in a conspiracy to force people to get used to the headphones past their returning point. I am sorry to all those who still believe in burn in. But I prefer to believe the folks who not only tested it to the highest level, but also made it repeatable and published their finding for free online.

It's a shame you were not able to do some objective instrument testing as well as subjective, as HRTF is real so what sounds raspy and harsh to you might not to me, and as always, all phones need EQ for audio playback and having an FR curve is really helpful.

Is this model relevant today? I want to buy myself a player from Sony (primarily because of the size), but I don’t know which one. Used There are both a55 and a105/306. I often see comments that Sony players are bad and it’s better to buy Hiby r3 II or something similar. But damn...

At the end of the day the m1s are synth specific budget monitor headphones.

So for those wondering teenage engineer disclaimed that the cord is a quality cut back they sell 3.5 mm cords as an upgrade. Personally I already have a very high quality 3.5mm cord but I did purchase the upgraded dual 6.35mm to 3.5mm cord they sell for about 10 usd for my sampler.

Having watched so many reviews of DAC's and listened to the utter nonsense of the so called audiophiles, it is a breath of fresh air to watch a video that is honest. Sure the S.M.S.L. SU-1 is actually a decent DAC, I tested it out using a DVD player as a transport and from there into an amplifier. I was impressed but virtaully any DAC would have done the same.

How compare w ta26?

Bluetooth sucks on btr7. It always has problems connecting. Battery life sucks. Do not buy.

I wonder how this DAC still Honda up today and especially today with the SMSL SU-1 that is half the price, single ended and you also reviewed?

Enjoyed this review as with your others! Got the Quintet earlier this year and it's my only IEM purchase this year. It's my 2nd best IEM that I own, 2nd only to my Blessing2:Dusk. Using the Dunu S&S tips made a whole lot of difference vs other tips I've tried.

I have the original ta-20. So far I hadn't seen anyone do a comparison in side by side between the ta-20 with the ta-20 plus. What's the actual sound difference? Can we actual hear a difference between the two. For now I'm just keeping my original. I use the 12bh7 tubes in mine. Some really good NOS tubes out there. The real problem with the Ta-20/plus is the tubes are on the output. The tubes should be on the input. But for $400 it works for a inexpensive desktop headphone amp.

Thank you for the honesty I made my first premium upgrade for headphones with the black edition meh 20’s and I felt disappointed ever since the first listen. I mix and master independently on my laptop and I’m upset it took me this long to finally see where I went wrong smh.
